Lego walkers guy
I've been watching Menno Gorter's work on youtube. He builds walker robots, and has been at it since 1979. He is still doing it with Mindstorms (and without) now.
His robots include spider/ant robots of all shapes and sizes, including a Minstorms powered moonbase compatible one with a hanger that can store a smaller walker - both of which are powered, can steer and look great.
His non-Mindstorms walkers also steer to avoid obstacles using purely mechanical contact methods.
Definitely inspiring - I should try to build some walkers - I am a bigger fan of the hexapods and spiderbots than the chicken walkers.
